Description

It is 1853, and Commodore Perry has disrupted the peaceful waters of the shores of Tokyo with a squadron of war fleets and one objective: to end Japan’s 200-year closure of its ports. Dating to the 17th century, unitary control of the Tokugawa Shogunate now leaves Japan vulnerable to the demands of the United States of America and other Western powers. In this committee, delegates will represent dignitaries and warlords in favor of—and critical of—the Tokugawa Cabinet, all juggling their personal political beliefs as they steer Japan through this tumultuous moment in history. How will delegates respond to Commodore Perry’s demands? Will the sun finally set over the Japanese Empire, or will the imperialist onslaught finally be halted?
